A smarter signal for thinning hair.

Exosomes are microscopic signaling particles that carry growth factors, proteins, and microRNA – helping regulate how follicles repair and function at the cellular level. Compared to PRP, they deliver a denser, more consistent signal that influences the entire follicle environment – not just growth.

Microneedling allows these signals to reach deeper into the follicle environment and activates extra repair. As supported by emerging clinical research, the combo creates an enhanced regenerative effect that strengthens follicles and improves overall hair quality – perfect for men seeking a higher level of support.

1.

Provide the signal

We apply a concentrated exosome preparation to the scalp – carrying growth factors, proteins, and microRNA that work at the follicular level to support the repair and function of weakening follicles. This is the core driver of the protocol.

2.

Deepen the reach

Microneedling creates controlled micro-channels across the scalp, allowing the exosome preparation to penetrate more effectively into the follicular tissue where it can have the most impact.

3.

Trigger healing response

Microneedling also triggers your body's own healing response – stimulating circulation and tissue remodeling that compounds the work the exosomes are doing.

PRP not cutting it?

Exosomes can deliver a stronger, more consistent signal for hair regrowth.
Efficient Sessions: 45-60 minutes.
Comfort-Focused: Numbing to reduce discomfort.
Minimal Downtime: Return to your day after.
Visible Results: Typically in 2-3+ sessions.

What to Expect

Before
Avoid NSAIDs (72 hours) and pause any minoxidil or medicated scalp products for 7 days before your session. Arrive with a clean, dry scalp and no products applied.
During
After numbing, your specialist performs microneedling followed immediately by exosome application – timed so the signals enter while the channels are still open. Expect mild prickling during microneedling; the rest is comfortable. Sessions run 45–60 minutes.
After
Mild redness and scalp sensitivity for 24–48 hours are normal. Skip washing for 24 hours. Avoid workouts and pools (48 hours), NSAIDs (72 hours), and hold off on minoxidil and active topicals for 3–5 days.

Are exosomes better than PRP?

Both approaches can work. The difference is in what they're doing and how reliably they do it.

PRP uses your own blood to concentrate growth factors and deliver a strong, broad “repair and grow” signal. It’s a proven protocol with a solid track record. The tradeoff is variability – results depend heavily on your platelet quality, which can differ based on age, health, and individual biology.

Exosomes take a more precise, system-level approach. They’re signaling vesicles that carry growth factors, proteins, and microRNA – a regulatory layer that tells cells what to do, when to do it, and how strongly to respond. Instead of just pushing the follicle harder, they help coordinate how the entire scalp environment behaves – improving cell communication, reducing inflammatory signaling, and supporting a more stable growth cycle.

A helpful way to think about it: PRP is like stepping on the gas. Exosomes are like stepping on the gas AND directing traffic – i.e. organizing how the system responds.

Because exosomes are sourced from optimized cell lines rather than your own blood, the signal is more standardized and less dependent on your biology. That typically translates to more consistent results across patients.

While still an emerging category, early clinical data is encouraging. Promising studies and meta-analyses report improvements in hair density (~20–45% in some cohorts), thickness (~18%), and hair count (~28%), particularly in earlier-stage hair loss. These outcomes vary by protocol and patient profile, and long-term data is still developing.

For men who want a more targeted biological approach – or who may not be ideal PRP candidates – exosomes represent a meaningful step up. For an even more advanced approach, Secretomes build on this further by delivering the full regenerative system, not just the signaling layer.

When will I see results from Exosomes + Microneedling?

This protocol works gradually – it operates on the timeline of your hair growth cycle and can't be sped up. Most men notice less shedding within the first 1–2 months, which is often the earliest sign the protocol is taking hold. Visible thickening and improved density typically appear between months 3 and 6, with full benefit reached a few months after the initial series is complete. To sustain (and sometimes improve) results, periodic maintenance sessions every4–6 months are recommended.

Overall, this can be effective for many men, but it requires patience, consistency, and regular maintenance, with results developing gradually and lasting longest when supported by proper care.

Is microneedling painful?

Discomfort is generally mild and well tolerated. Numbing treatments are applied to the scalp and left for about 20–30 minutes before microneedling, which significantly reduces sensation. Most men describe the microneedling itself as a light prickling or vibrating pressure rather than sharp pain. Areas where the scalp sits closer to the bone, like the temples and crown, may feel slightly more sensitive, but the overall experience is consistently well tolerated.

The biologic application itself is entirely comfortable. It's a topical solution applied to the scalp surface immediately after microneedling – no stinging, no burning, no irritation. Afterward, you may notice some warmth, tightness, or mild tenderness on the scalp, similar to the feeling after a light sunburn. This typically settles within a few hours and is a normal part of the healing response that drives the treatment's benefits.

Are Exosomes and Microneedling safe?

Yes. Microneedling has a very favorable safety profile when performed in a medical setting by trained specialists with sterile, medical-grade equipment. Side effects are typically mild and short-lived – some redness, mild swelling, tenderness, or temporary scalp sensitivity for 24–48 hours as the micro-channels close.

Exosomes are acellular signaling particles, not live cells, which means they don't carry the risks associated with cell-based therapies. One important note on transparency: exosome therapies are not currently FDA-approved for cosmetic or hair-loss use, and long-term data from large-scale trials remain limited compared to more established treatments. The safety profile from available studies and clinical use to date is encouraging, and we use only medical-grade, rigorously tested formulations with standardized exosome concentration and quality control.

This protocol is not appropriate for men with active scalp infections or open wounds, severe inflammatory scalp conditions like active psoriasis or seborrheic dermatitis flares, a history of keloid scarring, blood clotting disorders, severe immunocompromised states, active autoimmune flares, or active cancer in the treatment area. Recent isotretinoin use (within 6 months) is also a contraindication. Your specialist will review your full medical history before starting.

What are my other options besides Exosomes + Microneedling?

Within Boundless, this is one of several regenerative paths. PRP uses concentrated growth factors drawn from your own blood, with deeper, targeted injection delivery. PRP & Alma TED uses ultrasound to deliver PRP needle-free, which appeals to men who want to avoid injections or want extra Alma TED Hair Care Formula support. For men wanting more aggressive options, Secretomes + Microneedling and Secretomes + Alma TED are our most advanced regenerative protocols. (Note: exosomes can also be added as a targeted boost on top of other base protocols.)

Outside of regenerative protocols, common alternatives include finasteride (oral medication that blocks DHT, the hormone driving most male pattern loss), minoxidil (topical or oral; slows loss and stimulates regrowth), low-level laser therapy with at-home devices, and hair transplants for advanced loss or large bald areas.

Most men get the strongest outcome from a layered approach – the in-person protocol to deliver regenerative signaling, supported by prescriptions and at-home routines. Your specialist will build the right combination based on your pattern, scalp condition, and goals.

How should I prepare for my Exosomes + Microneedling session?

In the week leading up to your session, discontinue any harsh topical products on the scalp. About 72 hours before, avoid blood-thinning medications like aspirin, ibuprofen, and naproxen unless prescribed by your doctor for a medical condition, along with blood-thinning supplements like fish oil, vitamin E, and ginkgo. Pause minoxidil or other medicated scalp treatments during this window as well. In the 1–2 days before your visit, focus on good hydration, avoid alcohol, and get adequate sleep.

On the day of your session, eat a light meal, arrive well-hydrated, and come with clean, dry hair – no styling products, oils, or leave-ins on the scalp. Let your specialist know about any allergies, active scalp conditions, or recent sun exposure before starting.

What should I expect after my Exosomes + Microneedling session and how do I care for my scalp?

Downtime is minimal, and most men return to normal activities the same day or the following morning. You may notice mild redness or a flushed appearance on the scalp for 24–48 hours, along with mild swelling, tightness, or tenderness across the treated area. Some pinpoint bleeding immediately after treatment is normal given the vascular nature of the scalp. Temporary scalp sensitivity settles as the micro-channels close over 1–2 days.

For the first 24 hours, avoid touching or scratching your scalp, don't wash your hair, skip intense workouts, saunas, or anything that causes heavy sweating, and avoid swimming pools and hot tubs. Sleep on a clean pillowcase. From days 2 through 7, use a gentle, fragrance-free shampoo when you resume washing, and avoid harsh, medicated, or heavily fragranced products. Hold off on minoxidil, acids, or other medicated scalp products for several days to let the scalp settle and the micro-channels close properly. Wear a hat or apply SPF if you'll be in direct sun – the scalp is more UV-sensitive during healing.

If you need something for discomfort, acetaminophen is fine. Avoid NSAIDs like ibuprofen, aspirin, and naproxen for about 72 hours after treatment. Any mild side effects should resolve quickly, but contact your specialist if you notice worsening pain, signs of infection (warmth, pus, fever), severe or persistent bleeding, or unusual skin reactions.

What are exosomes and how do they help hair growth?

Exosomes are microscopic signaling particles that your cells naturally produce and release to communicate with one another. They carry growth factors, proteins, and microRNAs, which help regulate how cells repair and function and support a healthier follicle environment. Think of them as tiny biological text messages, carrying biological signals that influence how surrounding cells function, repair, and regenerate.

In regenerative medicine, exosomes are purified from stem cell sources and prepared for clinical use. They do not replicate or grow new tissue themselves. They work by signaling your existing cells to do their jobs more effectively. They are useful both in skin and hair applications. In hair treatments, they are applied to the scalp to support follicle health, reduce the inflammation that quietly disrupts the growth cycle, and help create a biological environment where hair can thrive.

At Boundless, we use a medical-grade exosome preparation derived from rigorously screened and processed stem cell sources. They undergo extensive purification and quality testing to ensure a consistent, standardized concentration of biologically active signaling molecules in every vial, providing each treatment session with a reliable, reproducible biological foundation that less rigorously sourced preparations cannot guarantee.

Will Exosomes + Microneedling work for me?

Exosomes + Microneedling works best for men with early-to-moderate thinning where follicles are still active. Before answering whether it will work, it helps to define what success actually looks like. There are two different outcomes: stabilization, meaning slowing or stopping further loss, and regrowth, meaning improving density or thickness. They’re not the same, and they don’t have the same likelihood.

Stabilization is the more reliable outcome. Roughly 80–90% of men on a structured plan see their loss slow or stop. Regrowth is the upside. Many men do see visible improvement, but results vary based on how long the hair loss has been progressing, how advanced it is, and how consistently the plan is followed.

The biology behind this approach is well understood, and early clinical data is encouraging. Exosomes help regulate repair, reduce inflammatory signaling, and coordinate how follicles and surrounding cells behave, while microneedling activates repair pathways and improves delivery. While still fairly new, promising early clinical studies and meta-analyses report improvements in hair density (roughly ~20–45% in some cohorts), thickness (~18%), and hair count (~28%), particularly in earlier-stage hair loss. These results vary by study design, patient population, and product quality, and larger long-term trials are still emerging.

Starting point matters. The earlier you act, the more active follicles there are to work with, and the more meaningful the potential outcome. Even if regrowth is modest, stabilizing what you have is often a meaningful win, helping you maintain density over time rather than continuing to lose ground.

For best results, this is typically paired with prescription support and consistent at-home care to reinforce and protect gains. During your consult, your specialist will assess your scalp, pattern of loss, and overall health to determine whether this protocol is a strong fit and what realistic results look like for you.

How many sessions of Exosomes + Microneedling do I need?

Plan for 3 initial sessions, spaced about 4 weeks apart, followed by a maintenance session every 4–6 months.

The reason it's a series and not a one-time session comes down to how hair actually grows. Each follicle moves through a multi-year cycle of growth, rest, and shedding, and at any given moment only a portion of your follicles are in the active growth phase. A single session only reaches the follicles ready to respond at that moment. By spacing sessions about 4 weeks apart, we catch follicles as they cycle into the active phase, building a cumulative effect over the series.

The first session lays the groundwork. Each one after compounds the response, strengthens the scalp environment, and recruits more follicles into active growth. Stopping after one or two sessions is the most common reason men don't see results – the underlying signal hasn't had time to build. Maintenance sessions then keep that signal active over time.

How long do the results last?

Results hold as long as the system is maintained. The protocol doesn't stop the underlying causes of hair loss – genetics, DHT, and hormonal shifts keep working in the background. If you stop everything, in-person sessions and at-home support, gains typically start fading within 6–12 months as the underlying loss resumes.

That's why the at-home medical layer matters as much as the in-person sessions. Prescriptions don't do the same job as Exosomes + Microneedling – finasteride and dutasteride address the hormonal drivers of hair loss by reducing DHT, while minoxidil supports growth by improving follicle performance and prolonging the growth phase. The in-person protocol stimulates follicles and improves the scalp environment. When you run them together, they cover both sides of the problem, which is why men on the full system hold their gains far longer than men relying on either piece alone.

At Boundless, we treat hair as a system, not a single procedure. The goal isn't just to grow hair once. It's to lock in the gains and keep fighting the drivers of loss over time. That means pairing your in-person sessions with the right supporting tools: prescriptions to address the hormonal side, medical-grade shampoos and topicals to support scalp health, and a maintenance cadence built around your specific pattern and rate of loss.

Men who follow the full system see the strongest, longest-lasting results. Men who rely on in-person sessions alone tend to see their gains erode as the underlying loss continues. Your specialist will build the right plan for where you are and what you're protecting.
