Secretomes are a full-spectrum collection of 500+ bioactive molecules produced by your own hair follicle stem cells – including growth factors, your body's own exosomes, PDRN, cytokines, and carrier proteins – at concentrations significantly higher than PRP.
Microneedling allows those signals to penetrate into the follicular environment while activating your body’s natural repair response.
Secretomes deliver a broader, more complete regenerative signal – influencing not just growth, but the entire follicle environment. They're an advanced option for men who need next-level protocols or are dealing with more established thinning.

We collect a sample of your own hair follicles to produce a concentrated, personalized secretome preparation: growth factors, proteins, and repair molecules derived directly from your biology.
Microneedling creates precise micro-channels across the scalp, triggering your body's natural repair response and preparing the follicular environment for deeper delivery.
Applied immediately while the channels are still open, the secretomes penetrate into the follicular layer, where they can influence how cells repair, communicate, and function.

Discomfort is generally mild and well tolerated. Numbing treatments are applied to the scalp and left for about 20–30 minutes before microneedling, which significantly reduces sensation. Most men describe the microneedling itself as a light prickling or vibrating pressure rather than sharp pain. Areas where the scalp sits closer to the bone, like the temples and crown, may feel slightly more sensitive, but the overall experience is consistently well tolerated.
The biologic application itself is entirely comfortable. It's a topical solution applied to the scalp surface immediately after microneedling – no stinging, no burning, no irritation. Afterward, you may notice some warmth, tightness, or mild tenderness on the scalp, similar to the feeling after a light sunburn. This typically settles within a few hours and is a normal part of the healing response that drives the treatment's benefits.
Secretomes + Microneedling works best for men with early-to-moderate thinning, and can also be effective in more moderate-to-advanced cases where follicles are still present but underperforming. Before answering whether it will work, it helps to define what success looks like. There are two distinct goals – slowing or stopping further loss (stabilization), and regrowing hair you've already lost. They're not the same outcome, and the odds aren't the same either.
Stabilization is the more reliable win. Roughly 80–90% of men on a structured plan see their loss slow or stop. Regrowth is the bigger upside, with most men seeing some degree of visible improvement, but results vary based on how long you've been losing hair, how advanced the loss is, and how consistently you follow the plan.
Secretome research is at an earlier stage than established treatments like PRP, but the biological rationale is compelling and early clinical outcomes are consistent. The mechanism is well-grounded: the secretome is the full toolkit stem cells secrete to coordinate repair – growth factors, cytokines, proteins, and signaling molecules that work together to support follicle activity, reduce scalp inflammation, improve circulation, and rebuild the structural environment around each follicle. That breadth is the core advantage. Microneedling opens the channels; the secretome delivers the full regenerative signal.
This protocol tends to be the strongest fit for men who want the most comprehensive biological approach available, men whose age or overall health may limit platelet quality (making a standardized secretome signal more reliable than variable PRP), and men who have tried other protocols and want to escalate to a more advanced treatment. It is also a strong option for men thinking about hair health from a longevity standpoint – working at the source rather than managing symptoms.
That's why starting early matters. The earlier you act, the more follicles are still active and the more the protocol has to work with. Even if regrowth is modest, locking in what you have is a meaningful outcome – often the difference between holding your hair for the next decade or losing significant ground.
We recommend pairing this protocol with prescription medications and at-home hair care routines, which help lock in and protect gains. Your specialist will evaluate your scalp, pattern of loss, and overall health during the consult to confirm whether this is the right fit and what realistic results look like for you.
Plan for 3 initial sessions, spaced about 4 weeks apart, followed by a maintenance session every 4–6 months.
The reason it's a series and not a one-time session comes down to how hair actually grows. Each follicle moves through a multi-year cycle of growth, rest, and shedding, and at any given moment only a portion of your follicles are in the active growth phase. A single session only reaches the follicles ready to respond at that moment. By spacing sessions about 4 weeks apart, we catch follicles as they cycle into the active phase, building a cumulative effect over the series.
The first session lays the groundwork. Each one after compounds the response, strengthens the scalp environment, and recruits more follicles into active growth. Stopping after one or two sessions is the most common reason men don't see results – the underlying signal hasn't had time to build. Maintenance sessions then keep that signal active over time.
This protocol works gradually – it operates on the timeline of your hair growth cycle and can't be sped up. Most men notice less shedding within the first 4–6 weeks, which is often the earliest sign the protocol is taking hold. Visible improvements in density and coverage typically emerge between weeks 8 and 12, as follicles re-enter the active growth phase and new growth becomes apparent. Fuller, more sustained results develop over months 3 through 6 and beyond, as the cumulative effects of the secretome's multi-factor signaling compound across the treatment series.
To sustain – and sometimes improve – results, periodic maintenance sessions every 4–6 months are recommended.
Overall, this can be effective for many men, but it requires patience, consistency, and regular maintenance, with results developing gradually and lasting longest when supported by proper care.
Results hold as long as the system is maintained. The protocol doesn't stop the underlying causes of hair loss – genetics, DHT, and hormonal shifts keep working in the background. If you stop everything, in-person sessions and at-home support, gains typically start fading within 6–12 months as the underlying loss resumes.
That's why the at-home medical layer matters as much as the in-person sessions. Prescription medications don't do the same job as secretomes: finasteride and dutasteride address the hormonal drivers of hair loss by reducing DHT, while minoxidil supports growth by improving follicle performance and prolonging the growth phase. The in-person protocol stimulates follicles, reduces scalp inflammation, and rebuilds the biological environment. When you run them together, they cover both sides of the problem, which is why men on the full system hold their gains far longer than men relying on either piece alone.
At Boundless, we treat hair as a system, not a single procedure. The goal isn't just to grow hair once. It's to lock in the gains and keep fighting the drivers of loss over time. That means pairing your in-person sessions with the right supporting tools: prescriptions to address the hormonal side, medical-grade shampoos and topicals to support scalp health, and a maintenance cadence built around your specific pattern and rate of loss.
Men who follow the full system see the strongest, longest-lasting results. Men who rely on in-person sessions alone tend to see their gains erode as the underlying loss continues. Your specialist will build the right plan for where you are and what you're protecting.
Your secretomes are sourced directly from you.
During an in-person session, we collect a small sample of your hair follicles (typically around 50) from the scalp. This may involve mild discomfort as the hairs are gently pulled, but most men find it relatively tolerable and the process is quick.
Those follicles are then sent to our partner lab, where they are used to generate your personalized secretome over the course of about 60 days. This process captures the full range of biological signals your follicles naturally produce – including growth factors, proteins, and other regenerative components.
Your follicles are also preserved, which means a future treatment round can be created from the same sample without needing to repeat the collection.
Yes – especially when sourced autologously (from your own body), as we do at Boundless.
Your secretomes are derived from your own hair follicles, which means they are inherently biocompatible and avoid many of the concerns associated with donor-derived or cell-based therapies. The final product is acellular – not live cells – and consists of the signaling components your follicles naturally produce.
One important note on transparency: secretome therapies are not currently FDA-approved for hair loss or cosmetic use, and long-term large-scale data is still developing. That said, the safety profile from available research and clinical use to date is encouraging. Outcomes depend heavily on sourcing and processing quality – which is why we source from you and use a controlled lab process with pharmaceutical-grade standards.
This protocol may not be appropriate for men with active infections, inflammatory scalp conditions, autoimmune flares, active cancer or ongoing treatment, or certain systemic conditions. Your specialist will review your history to determine if it’s right for you.
Secretomes aren't something we can offer as a single, one-off session.
Your secretomes are custom-produced from your own hair follicles and developed in a partner lab over about 60 days. That process results in a fixed number of vials, so there’s no way to create or order a single-dose version on demand.
Because of that, treatment is structured as a package, with two options available depending on how many sessions you would like to commit to upfront.
This ensures you have enough material to complete a proper protocol and see meaningful results, rather than waiting two months to do a single session that’s unlikely to move the needle. You can, however, combine secretomes for hair with secretomes for skin – ask your specialist about hair & skin secretome protocols if interested.
In the week leading up to your session, discontinue retinoids or any harsh topical products on the scalp. About 72 hours before, avoid blood-thinning medications like aspirin, ibuprofen, and naproxen unless prescribed by your doctor for a medical condition, along with blood-thinning supplements like fish oil, vitamin E, and ginkgo. Pause minoxidil or other medicated scalp treatments during this window as well. In the 24 hours before your visit, wash your hair thoroughly with a gentle shampoo, stay hydrated, and avoid alcohol.
On the day of your session, eat a light meal, arrive with clean, dry hair – no styling products, oils, or leave-ins on the scalp – and let your specialist know about any allergies, active scalp conditions, or recent sun exposure before starting.
Please reach out before your visit if any of the following apply: active scalp infection, inflammation, or open wounds; active acne or folliculitis in the treatment area; history of keloid scarring; blood clotting disorders; isotretinoin use within the past 6 months; active cancer or history of cancer; severe immunocompromised state; or known allergies to components of the secretome product.
Downtime is minimal, and most men return to normal activities the same day or the following morning. You may notice mild redness or a flushed appearance on the scalp for 24–48 hours, along with mild swelling, tightness, or tenderness across the treated area. Some pinpoint bleeding immediately after treatment is normal given the vascular nature of the scalp. Temporary scalp sensitivity settles as the micro-channels close over 1–2 days.
For the first 24 hours, avoid touching or scratching your scalp, don't wash your hair, skip intense workouts, saunas, or anything that causes heavy sweating, and avoid swimming pools and hot tubs. Sleep on a clean pillowcase. From days 2 through 7, use a gentle, fragrance-free shampoo when you resume washing, and avoid medicated or anti-dandruff shampoos for 3–5 days. Hold off on minoxidil, acids, or other medicated scalp products for 3–5 days to let the scalp settle and the micro-channels close properly. Wear a hat or apply SPF if you'll be in direct sun – the scalp is more UV-sensitive during healing.
If you need something for discomfort, acetaminophen is fine. Avoid NSAIDs like ibuprofen, aspirin, and naproxen for about 72 hours after treatment. Any mild side effects should resolve quickly, but contact your specialist if you notice worsening pain, signs of infection (warmth, pus, fever), severe or persistent bleeding, or unusual skin reactions.
Within Boundless, this is our most advanced regenerative protocol. If you prefer to receive your secretomes needle-free, consider our Secretomes + Alma TED protocol that harnesses ultrasound technology for a comfortable, needle-free delivery.
Other in-person paths include PRP via injection, which uses concentrated growth factors drawn from your own blood with targeted delivery; PRP & Alma TED, which as mentioned delivers PRP needle-free via ultrasound – suited for men who want to avoid injections or want additional Alma TED Hair Care Formula support; and Exosomes + Microneedling, which delivers a standardized multi-factor biological signal through controlled micro-channels. Exosomes can also be added as a targeted boost on top of selected other base protocols.
Outside of regenerative protocols, common alternatives include finasteride (oral medication that blocks DHT, the hormone driving most male pattern loss), minoxidil (topical or oral; slows loss and stimulates regrowth), low-level laser therapy with at-home devices, and hair transplants for advanced loss or large bald areas.
Most men get the strongest outcome from a layered approach – the in-person protocol to deliver a comprehensive regenerative signal, supported by prescriptions and at-home routines. Your specialist will build the right combination based on your pattern, scalp condition, and goals.
Secretomes tend to work best when hair follicles are still present but underperforming. Men with early to moderate thinning typically see the strongest results, though meaningful improvement is still possible in more advanced cases where follicles remain. Completely bald areas are unlikely to respond.
Because your secretome is sourced from your own hair follicles, your baseline biology plays an important role. Younger, healthier follicles tend to produce a stronger and more responsive signal, which can translate into better outcomes. That said, the lab process is designed to optimize and expand that signal, so men at different ages can still benefit. Earlier intervention simply gives the protocol more to work with, and banks your current cells for use in future years.
Hormonal balance is another key factor. Sensitivity to DHT and underlying hormonal drivers of hair loss work directly against follicle recovery, which is why addressing these alongside treatment often improves results. Scalp health also matters. A scalp free of chronic inflammation or infection allows the regenerative signal to take hold more effectively.
Consistency is one of the biggest drivers of success. Completing the full treatment series and maintaining a regular cadence allows results to build over time, while sporadic treatment limits the overall impact. Lifestyle factors such as sleep, nutrition, hydration, and minimizing stressors like smoking and excessive sun exposure also influence how well your body responds.
Combining secretome therapy with medications like finasteride or minoxidil typically leads to stronger, longer-lasting outcomes, since each approach targets a different part of the problem. Your specialist will tailor the right combination based on your starting point and goals.
Secretomes are the most advanced regenerative tool we offer – a high-density, full-spectrum collection of powerful biological signals your body uses to repair and rebuild tissue. They include growth factors, exosomes, PDRN, proteins, cytokines, and signaling molecules that actively direct how cells regenerate, function, and improve over time.
These signals are produced by stem cells. Think of stem cells as the body’s master repair crew – the secretome is the full toolkit they deploy to get the job done. Instead of introducing the cells themselves, we isolate and deliver that entire signal system directly.
At Boundless, your secretome is sourced from your own hair follicles, creating a personalized, high-impact regenerative signal. Applied to the scalp after microneedling or with Alma TED, it delivers a deeper, broader, and more coordinated repair response – helping improve not just hair growth, but the entire follicle environment for stronger, more consistent results.
