Can Neuromodulators Be Combined with Other Skin Treatments?

Can Neuromodulators Be Combined with Other Skin Treatments?

Clinical content from Jeffrey Vogel, MD, MPH – Chief Medical Officer, Boundless

Neuromodulators do one thing well: they interrupt the repetitive muscle contractions that drive expression line formation. They do not improve skin texture, restore volume, rebuild collagen density, or address the structural changes that accumulate in skin over decades of chronic movement and exposure.

That is where complementary treatments come in.

Why the combination is more complete than either alone

A face ages through overlapping mechanisms. Dynamic lines form from repeated muscle movement – neuromodulators address this directly. Static lines and overall skin quality changes are driven by collagen degradation, volume loss, and structural thinning of the dermis over time – regenerative treatments address these.

Neither mechanism addresses the other. Combining them covers both simultaneously, which is why men who combine neuromodulators with regenerative skin protocols consistently produce better long-term facial quality than men relying on either approach alone.

At Boundless, we believe the most effective facial protocol is one that reduces the mechanical stress causing lines while rebuilding the structural quality of the skin underneath.

PRF BioGel

PRF gel – platelet-rich fibrin – uses your own biology to restore volume and improve skin quality in areas of structural loss. For the under-eye region, where hollowing, dark circles, and volume depletion produce a fatigued appearance that no neuromodulator can address, PRF gel works through an entirely different mechanism: delivering concentrated growth factors, platelets, and fibrin scaffold to support structural tissue regeneration.

Combining Daxxify or Botox for expression line reduction with PRF gel for structural volume support addresses two distinct aspects of facial aging simultaneously.

Regenerative skin treatments: exosomes, secretomes, PDRN

Exosomes + Microneedling and Secretomes + Microneedling improve overall skin quality – collagen density, tissue resilience, texture, and the structural integrity that gives treated skin the foundation to look its best. In areas of chronic muscle movement, the skin gradually loses structural integrity. Consistent neuromodulator treatment slows this process by reducing mechanical stress. Regenerative treatments actively help the skin recover structure in the treated areas.

PDRN adds an anti-inflammatory layer – addressing the chronic low-grade scalp and facial inflammation that contributes to accelerated skin quality decline in areas of frequent creasing.

These treatments are not in competition with neuromodulators – they address complementary biological mechanisms that together produce more complete results.

Hormone optimization

Testosterone and collagen synthesis are directly linked. Men with suboptimal testosterone levels produce collagen more slowly, which affects skin thickness and resilience throughout the face. TRT or enclomiphene therapy at Boundless supports collagen synthesis at the systemic level, creating a more resilient tissue environment that makes both neuromodulator and regenerative treatment results look better and hold longer.

Timing and sequencing

Neuromodulator treatment and regenerative skin procedures can typically be scheduled in the same visit or in close sequence, depending on the specific treatments involved. Your specialist will advise on the right timing based on the specific combination.

The general principle: neuromodulators are efficient and low-disruption and can typically precede or follow most skin treatments without meaningful interference. Microneedling sessions require a brief recovery period and are generally not scheduled on the same day as neuromodulator injections in the same area. [Refer to this post for more information.]
