Who Should Consider Secretomes for Hair Loss?

Who Should Consider Secretomes Over a Core Protocol?

Clinical content by Jeffrey Vogel, MD, MPH – Chief Medical Officer, Boundless

Secretomes are the most advanced regenerative option in the Boundless hair lineup. Not every man needs them – for many men in the early stages of thinning, a Core protocol produces strong, durable results. But for a specific type of man, secretomes are the right starting point rather than an escalation.

Here is how we think about it at Boundless.

Men with more established or faster-progressing thinning

For men with moderate to significant thinning, or for men whose loss has progressed faster than expected, the full-spectrum signal from secretomes tends to produce more complete results than a Core-tier approach. When multiple aspects of follicle biology are compromised simultaneously – reduced growth factor signaling, inflammatory load, and shortened anagen phase – a comprehensive signal that addresses all of them is more likely to produce a meaningful response.

Secretomes contain growth factors, natively produced exosomes, PDRN, and cytokines simultaneously. A Core-tier protocol addresses fewer of those variables at once. [See post #14 for a full breakdown of what secretomes contain.]

Men whose platelet quality may be a limiting factor

PRP's potency depends on the patient's own platelet function. Men in their 40s, 50s, and beyond may have lower platelet activity – a factor that limits PRP's ceiling. Secretomes take personalization in a different direction: derived from your own hair follicle stem cells rather than your platelets, your secretome's potency is not limited by platelet function. [See post #4 for what affects PRP response.]

Men who have tried other protocols and want to escalate

For men who completed a PRP series or exosome protocol and found the results meaningful but not sufficient, secretomes represent a genuine step up in biological intensity. The mechanism is more comprehensive and the signal concentration is higher. Research on advanced regenerative approaches confirms greater outcomes with higher-complexity biological combinations (Altendorf et al., Physiological Reviews, 2025).

Men thinking about hair health as a long-term system

Secretomes work at the level of follicle stem cell signaling – using the same biological toolkit your follicles use to repair and regenerate themselves. For men approaching hair restoration from a longevity and prevention standpoint rather than as an acute intervention, secretomes represent the most complete biological investment available.

Final Thoughts

Secretomes are the right starting point for a man whose loss has progressed further, whose platelet quality may limit PRP, or who wants the most comprehensive approach from the beginning. [See post #29 for the full roadmap of how to sequence your approach.]
