How to Choose the Right Neuromodulator for Your Face
Clinical content from Jeffrey Vogel, MD, MPH – Chief Medical Officer, Boundless
Three neuromodulators are available at Boundless: Daxxify, Dysport, and Botox. They are not interchangeable. Here is a practical framework for deciding which makes sense for your specific situation.
Step 1: Identify what you are optimizing for
The most important variable is not the product – it is what outcome matters most to you.
If you want fewer appointments and the most consistent long-term results: Daxxify. Its six-month average duration cuts required appointments to two per year and sustains results more consistently between sessions. This is the right answer for most men who have done their research and are building a long-term protocol.
If you want the fastest possible onset – days, not weeks: Dysport. Its smaller molecular size produces visible change within two to three days for most men, meaningfully faster than Botox or Daxxify.
If you are new to neuromodulators and want to calibrate your response with the most documented product available: Botox. Its track record is unmatched, its three-month duration gives you a faster feedback loop for refining dose and placement, and it remains the most established starting point in the category.
Step 2: Consider your treatment area
Some treatment areas favor specific product characteristics.
Large, flat muscle groups – particularly the forehead – benefit from Dysport's broader diffusion, which allows even coverage across a wide surface with fewer injection points. The same diffusion that requires more precise placement near the eyes is an advantage across a broad, flat treatment area.
The glabellar region – the primary target for most men – can be effectively treated with any of the three. Daxxify's localized behavior and extended duration make it particularly well-suited here for men on a long-term protocol.
Areas requiring precise containment near the eyes favor Botox or Daxxify's more localized diffusion patterns. [Check out this post for how male facial anatomy influences these placement decisions, and see this post for the Dysport diffusion details.]
Step 3: Factor in your schedule honestly
Three to four appointments per year is a different maintenance commitment than two. For men who schedule consistently and find the appointment itself easy, standard neuromodulators are entirely manageable. For men who tend to let results wear off because scheduling feels like friction, Daxxify's longer duration directly addresses the problem.
The men who get the best outcomes from neuromodulator treatment are the ones who maintain consistent intervals – staying ahead of full muscle return rather than restarting from scratch each time. Daxxify makes that consistency easier to sustain.
Step 4: Understand that the first cycle is calibration
Regardless of which product you start with, the first one or two treatment cycles are as much about learning your individual response as they are about the immediate result. Your specialist will observe how your muscles respond, how long your results hold, and where dose or placement refinement would improve the outcome.
That calibration is why we do not recommend making a permanent product decision before going through at least one full treatment cycle. The right product for you is the one that performs best in your specific anatomy and response pattern – and that takes data to determine. At Boundless, your specialist builds that picture systematically across sessions rather than applying a fixed protocol from the first appointment. [See this post for more information.]
The Boundless default
For men who are past the initial calibration phase and have established their response, Daxxify is our primary recommendation. Two appointments per year, consistent results, and the best available duration in the category. For men who are new to neuromodulators or have specific reasons to prefer a different product, we work from where you are.
